Amber Rose on Why She Loves Salty so Much

This post was originally posted by Amber Rose’s Slutblog, in partnership with Salty.

The past few years, it’s seemed as though the feminist movement has undergone a transformation. As feminism moves off the streets and onto the shelves of mega-chain stores from Forever 21 to Target, its becoming smaller, more neatly packaged, more millennial pink and more easily consumable. As brands realize the marketability of #feminist slogans on keychains, sweatshirts and tote bags, the concept of feminism once rooted in radical resistance becomes glittery, docile, and soft as a pink pussy hat.

The question stands: where does that leave feminism for women like me? Women who are not white. Women who are not straight. Women who are not cisgender, or who identify outside the gender binary. Women who do not come from money, privilege, or security. Women who do not come with a master’s degree in gender studies and a top credit score. Where do women and folx like me find feminism that feels authentic?

Enter… Salty

I stumbled across Salty by chance, and I fell in love almost immediately. Finally – here is a place to explore truly modern dating, sex and relationships for women, queer folx, trans and non-binary people. Here is a place where feminism isn’t #branded, sparkly pink, dripping in rhyming girl-power slogans or awash in vulva art. To quote Salty’s About page, “Salty’s feminism is not millennial pink. It’s not brand-safe, snackable, or neatly packaged for retweets.” Salty is radically, authentically and fiercely body and sex positive, intersectional and multidimensional. In short, Salty is a place for modern feminists like me.

Seriously. Name another print or online mag with this kind of content? Plus, their choice of cover babes is consistently amazing – from Munroe Bergdorf to Amber Wagner to Erika Hart. each cover features a badass babe you might not see featured anywhere else.
